I Got You and You Got Me!

Support. Not only is this one of the biggest aspects of what a Doula does, it is one of the biggest needs of a Doula. As a new Doula, I am working hard to gain the knowledge and experience to be a great doula. Not just one that does it for a job, one that embraces and exudes all aspects of supporting mamas and their families through the most incredible and empowering experience of life.

When I first heard what a doula was years ago, I thought I might like to do that. But I had only minimal knowledge of it. It kinda sat on the back shelf of my mind for a long time. My dear friend Joanna had begun training to become a doula recently and invited me to be her "mama" so she could practice techniques she was learning. This experience snatched that interest off the back shelf and brought it out to the forefront again. I began to look into it again and realized that this was exactly what I wanted to do. I got into my own training and began to start the process of learning all I could.

I then had asked my best friend is I could attend her upcoming birth for the experience. She graciously allowed me this. When I say, The Best Moment of my life was right when I caught that beautiful baby in my hands, my whole world was shook. The emotions that flooded my soul cannot be put into words. I will forever hold those feelings close to my heart to remind me of why I am doing what I am doing. Support.

My best friend supported me in many ways. She has always supported me in life, in my endeavors and in my dreams. She brought me the experience that will push me on through this business I have built and for that I will forever be grateful! Support from my friends and family is huge!

In getting into the doula community, I have gone to some groups meetings with other local doulas in the area. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences meeting these amazing ladies. They have rallied around me to encourage, support and be a sounding board. I have asked questions and always been given answers with above and beyond knowledge. I was nervous going into the first group meeting but was met with the most warm welcome and felt so very comfortable. I left with a sense of joy and peace knowing that I had found a wonderful community of loving and supportive women.

I want every mama I work with to feel this sense of love and support. Each woman is unique and beautiful and their birth experience is one of a kind. And every woman deserves support during this experience. Support makes a difference in stress levels and can help the experience of childbirth be an empowering experience. I pray that each woman I support in childbirth and their postpartum journey will feel uplifted and supported in a way she never has before. I will embrace each mama and give my all in this journey as a doula. I look forward to being there for you!
